Visual narrative is the main graphic variable of this post. I drew the image that an old couple are sitting in the bright and warm waiting room when it is raining and cold outside the New Delft Station to give local residents a good feeling and hope about this beautiful landmark. I also used the pattern and texture of the Delft Blue in the poster, and want to let residents know that the new station not only is already be a part of their life but also reveal culture and history of Delft.
Group 06 SALL VCD thinks: The main focus is not on the 'spoorzone'. Text is too small. The reference to Delft is only made by tile-decorations. Try to keep the receiver of the poster in mind, when you are communicating a message.
Time: Years after 2014. The sub-text: An old tile, broken at its corners, depicts a story. The tile can be seen as a collector’s item, a memoire, a message from the past that can be found in an antique market. This element gives validity to its story. The story: In Delft train station, designed by Mecanoo Architects and recognized by its characteristic ceiling, an older couple is resting protected from rain. It’s Christmas and the atmosphere is festive. People are coming and going from different directions. The message: The 2014 train station, in time, will be integrated to Delft’s tradition, next to Delft blue and the hand painted tiles. It will become a ‘typical’ icon of Delft and part of the city’s history. It will be related to personal stories and create new memories. The title: “Delft New Train Station” is related to the present situation but at the same time creates a contrast to the aged image. It is the only instance that The present is present in the poster. The subtitle: “a Warmer, Brighter Memory” is only a wishful thinking. The comparison is not clear, (warmer and brighter that what?). It is important that Memory is mentioned, but why does it have to be a warmer and brighter one? The font: The font, colored orange, stands out nicely in contrast to the background and is warm at the same time. It is delicate and matches the aesthetics of the tile. The execution: It is an elegant poster. The element of nostalgia works nicely with the blue brush strokes and the tile’s aesthetics. ‘Warmer’ and ‘brighter’ mentioned in the subtitle direct us to look again into the image for their traces. The brightness is not obvious in colors but can be perceived as a contrast to the dark outside. The warmth is implied in the coats that the couple doesn’t wear inside. Instead of directly looking into the New Delft Spoorzone, the designer placed us at a much later point in time to evaluate the immediate future with nostalgia. The viewer is outside this image, looking at the old tile and reflecting on this very interesting game with time perspectives.
