Experiment of another idea

Here a quick and dirty experimentation of our other idea; but it shows some cognitive difficulties to implement it into a "map".
The starting point here would be that some people memorizes a route by the images of landmarks. Some images is places in a certain sequence showing the order; the perspective view of the image suggests guidance of the route by showing on which side this image is taken. And therefore maybe how the you as tourist should navigate through the cityroute.
Images (googlemaps)
Analysis assignment (week 5)
-Two versions (museum route & shopping route) of the poster: 6 x 8 m

This concept can be emphasized by using exagerated perspective like semi-fisheye effect; the idea is to direct them through perspective, instead of signs or dominant colour usage.
-No prominent text usage (exception of names)
-Route line as primary indicator for direction is not allowed
-No arrow(likes) allowed
-No legenda usage
-Differences between the two versions should be subtle
Deadlines/Deliverables:
23 May digital concept
26 May during lecture, A3 copy of concept
23 June Final design hand-in and presentation
Our basic ideas:
Transform top view to perspective view
Use Color, Angular perspective, Blur for guiding

Maps of Delft and some Inspiration
One of the great expressions of Delft's civic pride was the publication (first volume 1667) of Dirck van Bleyswyck's Beschryvinge der Stadt Delft, "The Description of Delft," an invaluable 900 page history of the city and one of the most ambitious 17th c. projects of its kind. Van Bleyswijck (1639-1681) was born into a prominent family and was sheriff, orphan master and burgomaster as well. He is known to have traveled extensively throughout the 17 Provinces.

Exploring the route
We used googlemaps to get a overview of the route, starting clockwise:

Assignment2 MAPS (week4)
Assignment 2
Design two versions of a pedestrian map of the centre of Delft in such a way, that it influences the behaviour of the users. This assignment should be executed in groups of four.
On the map the recommended walking route is clearly presented. This route starts and ends at Delft central station. The course it follows is:
Delft central station, Westvest, Phoenixstraat, St. Agathaplein, H. Geest Kerkhof, Choorstraat, Vrouw Jutteland, Vrouwenrecht, Oude Langendijk, Burgwal, Beestenmarkt, Kruisstraat, Pijnepoort, Bastiaansplein, Vesteplein, Breestraat, Barbarasteeg, Delft central station.

DesignAfter some deliberation it has been agreed by the town and the shopkeepers that there will be two versions of the map alternating every day.
Limiting conditions
• The use of text on the map is not allowed, with the exception of names of buildings, museums, streets and squares (all in English).
• The use of de 'Route line' itself as indicator for direction is not allowed.
• The use of arrows or other arrowlike symbols as indicator for direction is not allowed.
• The names 'Museum route' and 'shopping route' should not be used on the map. You can refer to these routes by route K and route P.
• There will not be a key to symbols. All visual elements should speak for themselves.
• The subtle but effective differences have to be based on the theory presented in Colin Ware's book.
Otherwise all kinds of static visualizations are allowed.

Poster 4
3D-space:

The poster contains mainly 2D images, but by occlusion, it creates a certain depth in the poster.
You can also see experimentation with Height on picture plane and 2,5 D.
The total image should give a clean and clear feeling. The new Delft station will provide more service in their hall, and also the accessibility is improved.

Assignment 1 (Composition)
.jpg)
In order to get people's attention of the coming Delft Spoorzone, this poster uses distinct compositional contrast to catch their eyes.
One is using the fuzzy background of the old and boring waiting area to set off the main structure of those two big NS logo. Then the two big half NS logo contain one old station picture and one new station picture separately. The logo of new one is bigger than the old one in order to push people to notice the coming station.
It is also to set off the sender by using the logo of NS.
Assignment 1 - Color
Assignment1 (color)
Change the old dark waiting feeling
(The posters said "grand opening" and "New coming"
...for most of you guys can't read Chinese~^"^)
This poster mainly contains two parts
A. a picture of old delft station's window painting
B. a blue triangular picture with words and new delft spoorzone showing
A. a picture of old delft station's window painting
B. a blue triangular picture with words and new delft spoorzone showing
The poster choose black and white as main color, cause the sender want to show basic informations directly to receivers (people can see considerable detail in black and white images because black-white detail it is only necessary for black and white parts of the image to fall on two or more different cone receptors). People can get the information quickly from this poster-a baby( New Life) and an old building (old delft spoorzone),
The poster also use two kinds of contrast: Luminance contrast & Chromatic contrast
The most important single principle in the use of color is that whenever detailed information is to be shown, lunibance contrast is necessary. Of course, black and white give the most extreme contrast possible, so the main types of this poster use white color setting in the shadow part of the poster.
Perhaps the most important use of color is to indicate categories of information. In this poster, color codes are used to show different information zones. The little blue triangel part makes larger the chromatic difference between the old black-white picture and new delft spoorzone symbols, this contrast make it easier for reading and searching.
People's view is guiding like this:
Black white picture - Blue part - White Type information
